The olive trees of Vallbona de les Monges

Soils
The olive trees are grown on the slopes surrounding the valley of Corb River, follow the shape of the terraces, and create characteristic beautiful landscapes of narrow and winding lanes. The terraces provide the cultivation, preserve the soil from erosion and improve water use. The soils are deep, calcareous and well drained with a strong structure.

Climate
The climate in Vallbona de les Monges is Mediterranean dry continental, in transition with Mediterranean coastal South. Weather conditions are ideal for the cultivation of olive trees, with cold winters and hot summers. The breeze (locally called “marinada”) cools the nights of summer. The rain, highly irregular, dominates in spring and autumn.
